This is the first entry in my “indie” reviews, which will continue for the next month, or two. But here is full disclosure: Bug Juice Productions are friends and collaborators. However, I view their films as I do any others.
Basically, what we have here, is a short that deals with addiction. It’s a touchy subject and can be handled badly.
However, BJ takes it deadly serious and doesn’t make the user out to be a bad person.
The cinematography is raw, but fluid.
And the use of a character personifying the addiction works well.
I had problems with the “drug” character extending his arms, at first…but grew to see why those shots were there.
I think this is a solid short and should be seen by others. It really hits home for people who recognize their addictions, and may just help others understand what those people are dealing with.
Whether this is what BJ intended, I cannot say. However, this is a well done short.
The acting, music, camera-work are very well done.
